2025 Production
The Production
For The Inheritance, HD Sound & Lighting took on a much wider role than simply providing technical support.
Alongside our usual theatre work, we were involved in several different areas of the production, helping take the show from the early planning and preparation stages right through to the final performances.
What We Provided

Technical rehearsals and adjustments
Live sound and lighting operation

Set construction and building
Sourcing and obtaining props
Programme advertising and sponsorship sales
Lighting & Sound
As with our other theatre productions, we were responsible for designing, programming and operating the lighting and sound for the show.
This involved working alongside the director throughout rehearsals, developing the technical elements as the production evolved and making the inevitable adjustments and edits needed to get everything working together.
From preparing individual cues through to operating the performances themselves, we were involved throughout the entire technical process.
Set Design & Construction
Our involvement extended beyond lighting and sound, with HD Sound & Lighting also taking an active role in the design and construction of the set.
This meant helping turn the ideas for the production into a practical stage environment that worked both visually and technically, while also taking into consideration the needs of the performers and the requirements of the show.
Being involved in both the set and technical design also allowed the different elements of the production to be developed together rather than independently.
Props & Production Support
One of the more unusual parts of the production was sourcing some of the props required for the show.This included working with local businesses and organisations to find suitable items — including obtaining a real coffin from a local undertaker for use within the production
.It is a good example of the variety of jobs that can appear behind the scenes of a theatre production. Sometimes getting a show onto the stage involves considerably more than programming a lighting desk!
Programme Advertising
We also helped with the commercial side of the production by selling advertising space within the show programme.
This involved approaching businesses and organisations and helping generate additional income to support the production, while giving local businesses an opportunity to be associated with the show.
The Result
The Inheritance was a production where HD Sound & Lighting was able to contribute across many different areas of the show.
From lighting and sound design to set construction, prop sourcing, technical operation and programme advertising, it demonstrated the broad range of work that can be involved in bringing a theatre production from an idea to a finished performance.
Being involved across so many areas also gave us a much greater understanding of the production as a whole, allowing the technical, scenic and practical elements to work together.
For HD Sound & Lighting, The Inheritance was a great example of what we enjoy most about theatre work — solving problems, creating ideas, building things, finding unusual solutions and ultimately helping turn a production into something that can be enjoyed by an audience.
