The Literal “Horror Movie” Hornet Nest (USA)
An old, unused shed was opened to reveal a discovery that looks like a prop from a Hollywood thriller. A colony of hornets had spent months chewing up wood fibers to build their paper nest. The New Record Holder: “Ed the Shed” (123 mph)
The current reigning champion is an Oxfordshire-based builder named Brian Cade. He constructed a wooden structure named “Ed the Shed”. Underneath the shiplap timber walls lies the chassis of a high-performance TVR sports car paired with a massive 4.5-litre V8 engine pushing 360 brake horsepower. He broke the world record at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire, clocking a terrifying 123.43 mph. As Brian told BBC News: “There’s probably billions of sheds in the world and he’s one of only three to have cleared himself out of rusty bikes, lawnmowers… bolted on a TVR with a big V8, and dared to dream.”

Local, Cornish shed shortlisted
Right now, a hand-painted garden shed in Camborne, Cornwall, has officially been shortlisted for the national Shed of the Year 2026 competition. Owned by Melanie Portlock, the plastic shed cost less than £100 and is brilliantly named “Can’t see the SHED for the TREES!”
