October 2026 production at the Prim-Raf theatre
This October, the Prim-Raf Theatre in Callington is delighted to present Box & Cox, the classic comedy originally written by John Maddison Morton in 1847.
While the original was a one-act Victorian farce, this exciting new adaptation has been reimagined in a 1970s setting by Jamie Rock, one of the talented members of TADA! (Tamar Arts and Drama Association). Jamie was stage manager on the previous production (The 39 Steps)
Jamie has adapted (mostly rewritten) the original script adding a whole second act and will also be directing this fresh new production, which takes to the stage at the Prim-Raf Theatre this October (2026).
The cast has now been selected and rehearsals are well underway. As with every production, an enormous amount of work goes on behind the scenes—from rehearsals and set building to costumes, lighting and sound—to bring the show to life. It takes the dedication and hard work of a fantastic team, but seeing audiences laugh, applaud and enjoy the performance makes every hour worthwhile.

The Classic Victorian Farce, In theatre, “Box and Cox” is an 1847 one-act comedic play by John Maddison Morton. It follows an unscrupulous London landlady, Mrs. Bouncer, who secretly rents a single room to two men on alternating schedules: Box works nights, and Cox works days. Hilarity and chaos ensue when their shifts overlap. This premise spawned the popular 1866 comic opera Cox and Box by F. C. Burnand and Arthur Sullivan. The theatrical arrangement is so well known that “playing Box and Cox” has entered the English language as an idiom for two people taking turns using the same facility or occupying the same position
